Alien Registration

Alien registration is the recording of personal information of aliens resident in Japan.

As a rule, registration by those over 16 must be made in person.

For those under 16, registration must be made by a relative over 16 who resides at the same address.

Registration can be made at the main office or the general branch offices.

Arrival in Japan/Birth

Arrival: Within 90 days of arrival in Japan.

Birth: Within 60 days of birth.

Renewal (Confirmation) Registration

Confirmation of recorded information

Those 16 or over:

Within 30 days of the date written on the alien registration card.

Those 16 or over:

Within 30 days of the date written on the alien registration card.

Replacement

When the card is damaged/soiled

No time limit.

Re-issuance

When the card is lost etc.

Within 14 days of the notice.

Change of registered information

Changes in name, nationality, occupation, workplace, status/period of residence

Within 14 days of the change.

Other changes

Change of head of household, family relationships, passport number

At the first time an application for any document is made after the change.

When moving to Tatsuno City

* When moving out from Tatsuno City, please take your alien registration card, passport and seal (if you have one) to the nearest administration office to register your new address within 14 days of moving.

* Births, deaths acquisition of Japanese nationality etc. must also be entered into the family register.

Certificates of registered matters of alien registration are issued at the Citizens Division of the main office or at the Citizens' Welfare Division at each of the general branch offices for 300 yen each. You will need to take your alien registration card for the procedure.
